S-OIL Sponsors Developmentally Disabled Youth Orchestra
OREANDA-NEWS. On June 12, S-OIL Corporation (CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher) donated 100 mil. won to the Heart-to-Heart Orchestra, which is composed of young people with developmental disabilities, as a way to boost disabled people's rehabilitation efforts and to support activities to improve public understanding of disabled people. On that day, S-OIL presented the donation to the Heart-Heart Welfare Foundation (Director Shin In-sook) at its head office auditorium in Mapo-gu, Seoul and invited the Heart-to-Heart Orchestra to perform in its "Sunshine-sharing Concert" for people living and working nearby.
The donation made by S-OIL will be used to support the Heart-to-Heart Orchestra's various performances and to offer scholarships to low-income disabled young people with musical talent. S-OIL will also back the "Happy School," a program of the "Heart Miracolo Ensemble," to improve public awareness of disability.
The Heart Miracolo Ensemble is composed of five Heart-to-Heart Orchestra members who graduated from music colleges and have become professional musicians. Just like last year, this year the Happy School will also hold Heart Miracolo Ensemble performances for 16,000 students in 32 elementary schools across the nation and will conduct activities to improve public understanding and awareness of disabled people through quizzes and visual education.
"We've sponsored the Heart-to-Heart Orchestra for five years to give disabled youth the opportunity to actively communicate with society through music and to improve public understanding of disabled people," said an official at S-OIL. "We'll continue to remain a solid companion for the orchestra, in order to help talented disabled youth realize their musical dreams and aspirations."
The Heart-to-Heart Orchestra is the first orchestra in Korea that consists of young people with developmental disabilities. The orchestra was established in March 2006 to develop the talent of disabled young people and help their social participation through the medium of music. This orchestra, which is composed of 56 youngsters with developmental disabilities, gives touching performances after more than 1,000 practices, so it has also become known as the "Miracle Orchestra."
