Strathy community shows support for SSE wind farm
OREANDA-NEWS. Over 25 people gathered to demonstrate their support for SSE’s Strathy South wind farm proposal this week at a meeting held by the Scottish Government Reporter’s Unit before a public local inquiry (PLI) on the project.
The pre-inquiry meeting, held at Strathy Hall in Sutherland on the north tip of Scotland, set the parameters for the PLI itself, which will result in a recommendation to Scottish Government Ministers – expected after April.
SSE’s Strathy South project manager Nicki Small said:
“It was fantastic to see such visible local support for Strathy South at the pre-inquiry meeting. SSE is a responsible developer with an established Highland heritage and we have set out to design the wind farm to deliver positive environmental gain overall – that is, to both generate clean energy whilst restoring and positively managing thousands of hectares of damaged peatland. We also intend to create significant investment in the local and wider Highland economy, as is already happening through Strathy North wind farm.”
The PLI process will see the relevant issues considered in detail before a final determination is delivered by Scottish Ministers.
