OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2015. Neste Oil has been selected for the ninth time for inclusion in The Global 100 list of the world's most sustainable companies. In 2015, the company ranks 31st on the list.

The top position in the 2015 list of most sustainable corporations is held by an American biotechnology company Biogen Idec. In addition to Neste Oil, the list includes four other Finnish companies.

"I'm extremely pleased with our nearly decade-long success on the Global 100 list. Sustainability is an integral part of all our operations, including the management incentive system. An external sustainability evaluation plays an important role in the development of our operations. Various organizations also provide valuable feedback on our performance in the area, helping us find areas for development," says Simo Honkanen, Neste Oil's Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Public Affairs.

Building even stronger commitment to human rights and the environment in 2014

In 2014, Neste Oil joined the UN Global Compact sustainability initiative to further strengthen its commitment to respect for human rights and fair employment conditions. We also continued cooperation with TFT (The Forest Trust), which focuses in the prevention of deforestation. The cooperation will expand Neste Oil's possibilities to influence on the sustainability of the palm oil industry outside its own supply chain. Neste Oil also joined five other Finnish companies and Sitra, the Finnish innovation fund, to establish the Climate Leadership Council to focus on climate issues.

The Global 100 list is compiled by the independent consultant agency Corporate Knights. The list is based on an extensive analysis of more than 4,600 major listed corporations. Several key indicators are used to assess the corporations, focusing on factors such as greenhouse emissions, consumption of energy and water, and the amount of waste produced. The safety performance, remuneration schemes, management, equality, investments in research and development, and taxes paid are also considered.
