OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2015. The State Chancellery's mobile application "Football" is among the laureates in the mobile application competition "World Summit Award Mobile" (WSA Mobile) held by the United Nations Organization (UN), and ranks among the 40 best in the world. Also the application "Football" is recognized as TOP5 mobile application in the world in the category m – Government & Participation.

All developers of 40 best mobile applications have been invited to an international congress (WSA-mobile Global Congress) to present in person the application and compete for the best place in the category.

Everyone can vote for, in his or her opinion, the best mobile application by January 26, 2015. The voting results will be one of the three basic criteria according which the jury will evaluate the best in each category. Get involved, vote and help the mobile application "Football" developed in Latvia to become No. 1 in the world!

Director of the State Chancellery Elita Dreimane says that this is a unique opportunity to export the innovative approach in the public administration of Latvia and the name of Latvia at international level – to international level experts and developers of mobile applications, as well as the UN representatives. "The greatest value added of the mobile application is the purpose of its development and functionality, which were given the priority in the assessment by the jury of the prestigious global competition. The mobile application "Football" provides people with an opportunity to give an immediate assessment of the work quality of the state authorities, by using a simple and convenient digital participation tool. It should be mentioned that also foreign experts, incl. participants of the OECD mission have recognized the initiative and succession in people's assessment.  

The UN competition WSA Mobile is a global initiative with an overarching objective to find and promote the world's best mobile apps from the perspective of content and innovation. The greatest importance is attached to the social initiative and public good of the project – in order to raise public awareness and promote involvement, using high-quality content tools, which can improve life quality.

A total of 500 applications were submitted for the competition from more than 100 countries. At the beginning, all projects had to undergo national selection, because in each of eight categories only one applicant from a country may have been chosen. In the final, a jury of high rank experts selected the world’s 40 best applications (5 in each of 8 categories). More detailed information about the competition: http://events.wsa-mobile.org/
