Bedburg and RWE commission wind farm construction stage one
“The first part is finished. We began installing the wind turbines last summer. Bit by bit, the tower sections, nacelles and blade sets have been assembled. Grid connection and subsequent commissioning took place in parallel, so that all turbines from construction Stage One are now supplying green electricity. Post-commissioning is also a pre-commissioning stage: work is already under way on construction Stage Two. Most of the access roads and crane pads will be in place by Christmas, and we’re going to lay the foundations in the spring,” explains RWE Innogy’s Boris Ossadnik, Project Leader.
The entire wind farm is being built on land reclaimed from the Garzweiler open-cast mine. Installed power will be around 67 megawatts. Senvion is the manufacturer of the turbines, each of which stands 200 metres high. The climate-friendly electricity generated here equates to the supply for 58,000 households. Konigshovener Hohe Wind Farm is a joint project between Bedburg Town Council and RWE. The town holds a 49 percent stake.
