OREANDA-NEWS. NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today the provision of its Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) cloud service, Obbligato for SaaS, to one of Thailand's leading auto part and machine tool manufacturing companies, CLP Engineering Co., Ltd. (CLP Engineering).

In recent years, manufacturers in Thailand are accelerating business expansion through the production and sale of in-house manufactured goods, in addition to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) business for international manufacturers.

In addition to its auto parts business, CLP Engineering also manufactures and markets products that include agricultural machine tools and small marine engines. However, since the management of information on the company's approximately 1,000 products has conventionally been coordinated by paper, business processes have become complicated and the hours required for management and maintenance have increased. In order to resolve these issues, NEC is introducing information and communications technologies (ICT) that help to optimize, advance and standardize effective business practices.

NEC's Obbligato for SaaS standardizes the management for bill of material (BOM), documentation and design change, then implements them as services through the Obbligato series of PLM software, which holds the largest market share(*) in Japan after its introduction to more than 750 corporate customers. This enables users to begin working with the SaaS PLM cloud service quickly and at a low cost, without individual customization. Moreover, since users can easily carry out software upgrades and no server maintenance is required, the system can be operated by a small number of IT staff.

In addition to providing Obbligato for SaaS, NEC has assisted CLP Engineering with the system's deployment and provided consulting on the standardization of business processes.

"The introduction of this service enables CLP Engineering to implement centralized management of documentation that includes component lists, design plans, specifications and written estimates," said Toshikazu Fukuoka, general manager, Manufacturing and Process Industries Systems Development Division, NEC Corporation. "Furthermore, the wide variety of data being managed by Obbligato for SaaS can also be used by CLP Engineering's existing ERP system."

Obbligato for SaaS belongs to the lineup of NEC Global Enterprise Solutions, NEC's portfolio of continually upgraded and expanded solutions and services offered globally to enterprise customers in retail, distribution, manufacturing and other fields. Going forward, NEC aims to deploy this service to more than 100 manufacturers throughout Thailand by the end of the 2018 fiscal year.
