OREANDA-NEWS. January 27, 2015. EMT will launch new mobile data plans, which enable new subscribers to take advantage of EMT's top-speed 4G internet connection. Current users of mobile data plans do not have to switch to new plans.

"We opened top speeds of 4G and EMT's mobile internet network in all data plans because the need for high-quality web services like video and TV is constantly growing. Customers need faster data speeds in order to be able to really enjoy these services," said Teet Tiisvelt, Head of Internet Services at Eesti Telekom.

"The number of 4G devices is also growing and 4G is becoming a common feature. As we want to offer our customers the best usage experience, we launched these new plans that enable our customers to take advantage of rapid development of technology," Tiisvelt added.

The measurements conducted by the Technical Surveillance Authority (TSA) in 2014 showed that EMT offers the best average speed of 4G mobile internet in Estonia. Measurements taken show that in EMT's 4G network the average download speed was 51 Mbps and average upload speed 28.1 Mbps. Additionally, measurements conducted by Eesti Paevaleht and Pemetel OU confirmed the fact that EMT's 4G network provides the fastest speeds in real-life usage scenarios.

"Our customers argue that large coverage area and the speed of mobile internet are one of the most important advantages of EMT compared to competitors," Tiisvelt noted. "This was confirmed by a survey conducted by Turu-uuringute AS – mobile data speed and coverage was named as the biggest advantage of EMT by the survey participants.

The maximum speed of EMT's 4G is up to 300 Mbps for download and 50 Mbps for upload.

In the new data plans, internet access is blocked after reaching the allocated volume. After mobile data included in the plan is used up, it is possible to buy an add-on data pack or switch to a larger plan. The user is forwarded to a webpage where the choice can be made.

EMT's 4G top speeds will also be available to all EMT Mobile Life plan users. All new EMT Mobile Life plan subscribers can take advantage of maximum speeds right away. For current EMT Mobile Life plan users, these speeds will become available on Feb 19, 2015.

All current and new EMT customers can subscribe to new mobile data plans from Jan 19 onwards. Both rare and frequent mobile internet users can find a suitable option among new 4G plans. In order to be able to take advantage of the 4G network possibilities, a device that supports 4G is required. A broad selection of 4G devices is available at stores and their prices start as low as €99.

Those EMT customers who do not want to switch to a new 4G plan can continue using their current data plan. However, it is not possible to subscribe to old plans as of Jan 19. This means that only the new 4G plans will be available for those who want to switch or subscribe from Jan 19 onwards.
