Several hundred objects of national significance come under mandatory protection by Interior Ministry, the National Guard and SBU
OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has signed an order in which several hundred objects of national significance come under mandatory protection by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine. The Head of Government informed during the teleconference with heads of regional state administration at the House of Government on Friday, January 23.
"Now I will sign an order. There are several hundred objects of national significance, which should be liable, after today's decision, to obligatory protection of the Ministry of Interior, the National Guard and the Security Service of Ukraine. These objects comprise ports, airports, a number of Ukrzaliznytsya objects, waterworks, power plants," informed Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
A corresponding list for official use only shall be sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard and the SSU.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk also instructed the heads of regional state administrations in synergy with the Interior Ministry and the Security Service to determine the appropriate list of local importance objects, "First and foremost, this applies to water supplies, electricity supplies, gas supplies and public places, which are likely endangered most”.
"The situation is difficult. But our goal is to make people feel safe and to ensure key infrastructures objects, being of strategic importance both for the state as a whole and for each town and each region, to be completely protected", stressed Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the level of protection of certain infrastructure facilities in Kyiv region, "I have visited several facilities of Kyiv region, in particular bridges, and, to put it mildly, I am extremely dissatisfied with how these objects have been protected until today".
Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced that following the conference call he would negotiate on this issue with the leadership of the concerned departments, “And I will personally go and see what will change, both in the streets of Kyiv and on key objects of the state."
