Bilateral Trade of Moldova and Belarus Up 20,2%
OREANDA-NEWS. January 23, 2015. This was stated by the Embassy of Belarus in Moldova. An amount of Moldovan exports to Belarus increased 68% to USD 134.1 million, whereas an amount of Belarusian export to Moldova grew 4.2% to USD 248.3 million.
Over the last 11 months the negative balance of Moldova’s trade with Belarus shrank 27.9% compared to the same period of 2013 to USD 114.2 million. It should be noted that the turnover between Moldova and Belarus over the reporting period exceeded the USD 357 million reported for the whole 2013. Let’s remind that that Belarus’ President Alexandr Lukashenko during his visit to Moldova on September 24/25 pointed out the necessity to increase the bilateral trade to \\$0.5 billion, which he estimated as a considerable raise.
At the talks in Chisinau the Presidents of Moldova and Belarus came to an agreement to have the trade-and-economic cooperation between the two countries extended. Alexandr Lukashenko called the collaboration between Moldova and Belarus in the industrial cooperation promising for having access to the markets of the EU and third counties and for increasing the bilateral commodity turnover. He recalled the project on the assembly of Belarusian farming machines and trolleybuses in Moldova and noted the assembly of Belarusian buses was pending the launch.
According to him, Moldova is Belarus’ important trade and economic partner, the fifth largest one among CIS states. Since 2000 the volume of bilateral trade between Moldova and Belarus have grown fivefold and reached about USD 360 million in 2013. Moldova imports from Belarus mostly oil products, tobacco goods, tractors, cars, ceramic tiles. Belarus exports from Moldova wine materials and grape wines, strong beverages, fresh fruit, maize, etc.
