OREANDA-NEWS. January 23, 2015. A solemn opening of a long-distance lines pier with a shore-protection of the seaport cargo area took place.

The opening was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Viktor Olersky, Head of Rosmorrechflot Aleksandr Davydenko, General Manager of FSUE “Rosmorport” Andrey Tarasenko and the Governor of the Murmansk Region Marina Kovtun.

The pier, which was built in 1961, is located on the eastern shore of the Kola Bay southern elbow, on the territory of Murmansk passenger terminal and ensures transportation of passengers, supply of villages and garrisons, calls of foreign and cruise vessels.

Reconstruction of the berth and shore-protection structure were started in June 2012. During the works more than 3 thous. tons of groove and about 850 tons of consolidation metal piles were dipped. The length of the pier increased by 75.5 m, and the width – by 5.64 m. Moreover, now vessels can be served both from southern, and northern sides.

Also, to improve the quality of services provided for tourists, the passenger area was capitally improved and expanded by 1 650 m2. The work performed will allow to provide services for passenger vessels with length of not less than 160 m, that, in the future, will help to double passenger turnover in the Murmansk seaport.

At the moment the documentation of the marine terminal passenger reconstruction project, which is planned to be finished by the first quarter of 2016, is being discussed.

Murmansk seaport was founded in 1915 and is now among the main Russian seaports which provide foreign-trade operations. In the seaport there are 97 berths with the total length of more than 11 km.
