OREANDA-NEWS. January 21, 2015. Kazakh Energy Minister Vladimir Shkolnik, taking part in the fifth session of the Assembly of the IRENA agency in Abu Dhabi, held a series of bilateral meetings on Saturday, staff correspondent of the IIA "Kazinform" in the UAE reports.

V.Shkolnik met with the executive director of the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA Adnan Amin. Kazakh Minister congratulated the representative of IRENA on re-election at the fifth session for another term as General Director of the agency. In turn, A. Amin thanked Kazakhstan for active participation in the work of the organization and a sincere interest in the development of renewable energy sources.

Also Kazakh Energy Minister held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Yoichi Miyazawa. The sides discussed the current state of the Kazakh-Japanese relations in the energy sector. Japanese minister expressed interest in expanding of the participation in a number of promising projects in the sphere of nuclear energy.

UN Deputy General Secretary - Executive Director of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Shamshad Akhtar noted the potential of "green energy" in Kazakhstan. According to her, in the future, Kazakhstan, taking into account its favorable geographical position, can become a regional exporter of energy generated by alternative sources. In this context, the representative of the United Nations and V. Shkolnik discussed joint priorities within the framework of the partnership between the ESCAP and Kazakh "Green Bridge".
