OREANDA-NEWS. In the framework of trans-border and cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and Poland, the number of citizens of the two countries covered by the agreement on local border traffic may be increased up to one million. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Monday, January 19, at a press conference following the Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental consultations.

He reminded that pursuant to the current agreement about 150 thousand citizens of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine can travel freely through the Ukrainian-Polish border on the basis of the agreement on small border traffic, "We believe we can increase the number of citizens to a million".

During the Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental consultations there were also discussed the issues of education, science and humanitarian cooperation. The Head of Ukrainian Government noted the importance of the proposal of the Polish side to grant new scholarships under the programs for Ukrainian students.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed that the Defense Ministries of Ukraine and Poland had held consultations on military and technical cooperation, "Military and technical cooperation demands peculiar attention and is a separate priority in our bilateral relations".

Prime Minister of Ukraine also evaluated technical and practical assistance rendered by Poland in political and fiscal decentralization areas, "I believe that it is just the model of Poland that appears the most appropriate model of public governance for Ukraine".
