OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2015. Tsinghua University THU and NRG Netherlands jointly held the Witness Meeting of Irradiation Test for China's High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor Fuel Element at Petten Nuclear Base of Netherlands.

At the witness meeting, Mr. Steven Knol, the technical director of NRG Irradiation Test released the results of this irradiation test. According to the report, it was very successful for the irradiation test of China's high temperature gas-cooled reactor fuel element because the key index such as release rate of reactor fission products etc was far better than that of other countries’ products. All of the 60 thousand fuel particles remained intact and fuel ball graphite powder had extremely high purity, which shows that China's high temperature gas-cooled reactor fuel element has reached international banner level.

High temperature gas-cooled reactor is one of the most safety nuclear reactors in the world for the time being, which was included in National Science & Technology Major Project in 2006. And top quality fuel element is the core of key technology, which can guarantee the safe operation of high temperature gas-cooled reactor.

In recent years, Tsinghua University, China North Nuclear Fuel Co., Ltd and Sinosteel New Material Co.,Ltd have cooperated perfectly to break through a number of technical problems successively, with result of successful completion of the trial production of nuclear fuel ball under the leading of the Institute of Nuclear and New Technology. As the exclusive domestic supplier of graphite powder used in nuclear fuel, Sinosteel New Material Co.,Ltd has built the industrialized production line of nuclear graphite powder, which can meet the requirement for the operation of demonstration project of Shidao Bay in future.
