Walkathon for Road Safety started in India
OREANDA-NEWS. Ministry for Road Transport & Highways organised a walkathon here to mark the beginning of the Road Safety Week starting from 11-17 January, 2015.
The march started from the India Gate and concluded at Jawahar Bhawan. The “Walk for Safety” was flagged off by Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Shri Vijay Chibber. Speaking on the occasion , he emphasised that “safety is not just a slogan, it’s a way of life.” Road safety is not the responsibility of government or police alone, it’s a collective responsibility of the society, he added. He further added that in view of the magnitude of trauma and economic loss caused by road accidents a matrix is being prepared to identify the specific areas of major concerns.

The walkathon was participated by a large number of people including dignitaries, schoolchildren, cadets of 2 Delhi Artillery Battery, representatives of Delhi Police and volunteers from Indian Head Injury Foundation (IHIF).
