EDF RE Orders 75 V100-2.0 MW Turbines
OREANDA-NEWS. With reference to Vestas Wind Systems A/S' company announcement No. 49/2014 of 30 December 2014, Vestas has received a firm and unconditional order in the United States from EDF Renewable Energy for 75 V100-2.0 MW turbines.
With today's announcement, Vestas and EDF RE close the books on their previous master supply agreement (ref. Vestas Wind Systems A/S' company announcement No. 52/2013 of 20 December 2013). That agreement represented up to 1,174 MW of capacity, of which orders totalling 1,094 MW have been received, including today's order for 150 MW.
The order comprises supply and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a three-year Active Output Management (AOM 5000) service agreement. AOM 5000 includes an energy-based availability guarantee ensuring that turbines are operational when the wind is blowing.
Turbine delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2016.
Also today the two companies have initiated a new master agreement defining terms for up to 1 GW of future capacity, which will be installed in coming years.
"In 2013, Vestas and EDF RE signed an ambitious master supply agreement laying out our partnership. Today's announcement will be the last under that productive umbrella agreement," says Chris Brown, President of Vestas' sales and service division in the United States and Canada. "But we're not done yet. EDF RE is one of the most successful renewable energy developers in the North American market, and this new agreement opens the door to our next gigawatt of continued collaboration in 2015 and beyond."
"Over 1 GW of new wind energy projects have materialized to date under the frame agreement EDF Renewable Energy and Vestas entered into in late 2013, significantly strengthening the partnership between our two companies in the process," said Ryan Pfaff, Executive Vice President of EDF Renewable Energy. "With the recent extension of the Production Tax Credit, we look forward to working with Vestas to bring additional, clean energy projects online in the US over the next few years."
Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas' more than 52,700 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by over 60 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.
Vestas has delivered wind energy in 73 countries, providing jobs for around 19,300 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world. With 52 per cent more megawatts installed than our closest competitor and more than 64 GW of cumulative installed capacity worldwide, Vestas is the world leader in wind energy.
Vestas sold its first wind turbines in the US in 1980, and established its North America subsidiary the following year. As of the end of Q3 2014, Vestas had installed 11,879 MW in the US. Approximately 3,000 US employees work in our four Colorado factories, in our sales and service headquarters in Portland, Oregon, and at close to 200 wind sites currently under service contract with Vestas.
