OREANDA-NEWS. Polyus Gold now benefits from accelerated business applications and more reliable telecom infrastructure following the completion of a traffic analysis and optimization project powered by Riverbed Technology solutions and delivered by CROC.

"Polyus Gold intensively uses satellite communication since its branches are located in Siberia and the Far East. The project allowed for a significant reduction in traffic volume and the accelerated performance of business applications. Furthermore, we can now isolate and eliminate communication channel issues in a dramatically faster manner," said Vasily Dolgov, Head of IT Department, Polyus Gold.

"Polyus Gold is a team of professionals which, jointly with CROC's specialists, reviewed market offerings and helped to minimize probable risks. During the pilot project, we managed to test the systems based on the customer's existing network functionality. As soon as the customer approved the software and hardware offered, we began to implement the system on 11 sites throughout Russia. Our specialists worked almost 24x7 due to time differences and the constant need to be in touch with the Polyus Gold team," said Andrey Vrublevsky, Head of Network Optimization and Control Practice, CROC.

The project is based on a Riverbed Application Performance Platform™. CROC implemented Riverbed® SteelHead™-a system that optimizes traffic to accelerate applications and reduce data transfer volume; and Riverbed® SteelCentral™-a system that monitors and analyzes the network performance of business systems. Furthermore, CROC classified all business applications at Polyus Gold, identified the most latency-sensitive services among them, deployed the traffic prioritization system, and provided control over compliance with system rules.

"Russian customers are striving for optimized and accelerated performance of applications in geographically distributed networks. Advanced applications handle big data and require high-level SLA parameters for the network infrastructure. However, sometimes it is not economically feasible and efficient to just expand communication channel capacity. We are experiencing increasing demand for SteelHead and SteelCentral and, jointly with our partner CROC, are ready to continue offering end-to-end solutions based on these systems for the purposes of cost saving and better business performance," said Alexander Stulov, Sales Director in Russia and CIS, Riverbed Technology.
