Kaluga Plant Volkswagen Stops Assembly Line until Next Year
OREANDA-NEWS. Kaluga plant Volkswagen stopped the assembly line and it will resume the car production after the Christmas holidays on January 12th, 2015. Director of Public Relations of company, Natalia Kostyukovich, informed about it the agency "TASS", by explaining that the necessity of downtime is connected with the fact that the plant produced the planned number of cars in this economic situation. All employees of the company had a leave with pay of 2/3 of the salary.
The company Volkswagen Group Rus suspended already twice its production in Kaluga plant this year - in September and October. The company confirms fully its commitment to the Russian market and it has consistently adhered to the investment program. In particular, we are talking about continuing construction of engine plant in Kaluga and spare parts warehouse in the Moscow region, the opening of which is scheduled for 2015.
Meanwhile, against the background of unfavorable economic situation and the sharp depreciation of the ruble against the euro Kaluga Volkswagen plant in 2014 may lay off about 600 of temporary staff in Kaluga, writes "Za rulem.RF". The following year, the reduction may affect another 200 temporary and 400 permanent employees. Total number of staff currently is at the level of 4,800. Kaluga plant produces cars Volkswagen Polo Sedan, Tiguan and Skoda Rapid. Production capacity is 225 thousand cars a year.
