OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2014. Since it began commercial operations on 12 December 2010, the Allegro express train has carried more than 1.5 million passengers.

Launching high-speed rail services has reduced the travel time by rail between St. Petersburg and Helsinki to just over three and a half hours. The lower travel time has been due to technically more modern trains, combined with the faster completion of border formalities and increased train speeds. The Allegro's maximum speed in Russia is 200 kph and in Finland 220 kph.

The Allegro is manufactured by Alstom and is a unique train in that it can be used on lines with direct and alternating current and is equipped with both Finnish and Russian communications technology. It also has two traffic control systems, while train tilting technology allowing for tilts of up 8 degrees enables the train to negotiate bends and curves at higher speeds.

In Russia, Allegro tickets are on sale at all ticket offices and terminals specialising in international services, as well as through the official website of Russian Railways.

When selling tickets, bills are settled in roubles at the exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Russia on the day of the ticket sale.

When booking tickets in third countries, the rates of the East - West tariff apply. Allegro fares and timetables can be found on our website.
