The President supposes the ban on foreign cars as meaningless at current exchange rates
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the government discussed a variant of the ban imports of foreign cars. As the head of state said, such measures were seen as a step back to "illegal sanctions lawlessness”.
Vladimir Putin said that this decision would be effective, as all international brands are already working in Russia. "And a ban on the import of finished products, without a doubt, will be supported by the production, firstly, and secondly, it will be tough enough for the economy of those countries that are engaged in this activity of sanctions”, - said Vladimir Putin, who was cited by AutoNews.ru.
However, according to the head of state, it does not make sense to limit the import of cars in Russia during the current economic situation. "At today's exchange rate there is simply no economic sense, because the course itself has put everything into place. And we will support manufacturers, including foreign ones, who agree with the localization of over 50 percent”, - said the president.
Recall it was discussed at first the ban on the import of foreign cars in Russia in the beginning of August. Then Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, at a meeting of the government said that the Russian authorities are considering the possibility of sanctions imposing on foreign auto companies. He did not specify what kind of protective measures it will be, and what the company will suffer from them. "We are ready to enter the potentially protective measures in the aircraft industry, shipbuilding, automotive and other industries”, - said earlier Mr.Medvedev. The Prime Minister stressed that it will be done meaningfully.
