Automakers Stop Sales of Foreign Cars in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. Several foreign automakers, including American General Motors, stopped the wholesale of cars to dealers because of the collapse of the ruble.
"Due to the volatility of the ruble and the purpose of risk management GM Russia has decided to stop temporarily the wholesale of cars to dealers in Russia from December 16th, 2014", - GM Russia informed Reuters. GM, which sells cars Opel, Chevrolet and Cadillac in Russia and promises to deliver for the buyers all cars that were bought.
The company Jaguar Land Rover Russia also announced about the suspension of sales in Russia until December 19th "in connection with the unstable economic situation and the significant depreciation of the national currency against the currency basket". Sales will be opened after "the company will decide about the future pricing".
German automaker Audi has stopped all shipments of cars in dealerships in Russia before the stabilization of the ruble, the company spokesman informed the agency "TASS". "Shipments from the central warehouse in Moscow were stopped; the supply will be restored as soon as the currency rate will stabilize," - he said.
At the time of instability of currency, it is better to stop sales and wait until the situation is stabilized, says the CEO of portal Autodealer.ru, Oleg Datskiv. According to him, now sales of cars at the old prices are unprofitable, so it is not necessarily that the stocks of dealers or car manufacturers finished. They could leave them for the beginning of 2015, or at the time when it will be clear when and at what level the stabilization of Ruble and demand occurs.
