OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2014. Sakhalin Energy ranked second in the Russia's first environmental rating. The ranking was initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) of Russia and CREON Energy analytical-advisory group in the field of fuel and energy sector with the involvement of the National Ranking Agency.

The first environmental responsibility ranking of Russian oil and gas companies was presented in Moscow. The aim set by the organisers was to promote the efficient use of hydrocarbon resources, environmental protection and socially responsible business.

A total of 19 leading oil and natural gas producers (production above 1.5 million tonnes per year) participated in the ranking. Key players in the Russian oil sector contested in the following categories: environmental management, environmental impact and disclosure / transparency. Surgutneftegas topped the ranking list according to calculations, Sakhalin Energy ranked second and Gazprom – third. In addition, Sakhalin Energy was named the winner in two categories of the three listed: environmental management and disclosure / transparency.

According to Alexei Knizhnikov, WWF Fuel and Energy Sector Environmental Policy Programme Manager, the environmental ranking of oil and gas industry founds a new information and feedback mechanism between the oil and gas industry and society in Russia.
