OREANDA-NEWS. Sewerage collector construction will commence at the Admiralteyskaya Embankment. From the day traffic restrictions are imposed in the area.

Collector construction constitutes a part of works required for six direct wastewater discharges elimination. About a thousand cubic meters of untreated wastewater per day are currently released through these direct discharges into the Neva River.

We cannot just close direct discharges; wastewater should be transported for treatment. The collector will serve this need, receiving the wastewater. Further, wastewater will be transported via the system of other collectors to the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, where it will pass the full treatment cycle (with the implementation of all the recommendations of the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission (HELCOM)).

To ensure this, firstly it is necessary to build a collector under the Admiralteyskaya Embankment (these works will commence on November 22), and secondly - to lay sewers along the Senatskaya Square (at the site, which sometimes is informally referred to as Proezd Dekabristov) from the Admiralteyskaya Embankment, with connection to the operating collector along the Konnogvardeysky Boulevard.

The length of the collector, which will be constructed at the Admiralteyskaya Embankment, is 550 m (part from Dvortsoviy Proezd to the Senatskaya Square), it diameter is 1.2 m. The collector construction will be performed by JSC "SMU-303" (contractor was selected on the basis of tendering procedures).

The length and diameter of the new networks to be developed at the Senatskaya Square are 320 m and 1.2 m respectively.

In general, direct wastewater discharges elimination at the Admiralteyskaya Embankment should be completed by mid-May 2015.

Trenching method will be employed for works at the Admiralteyskaya Embankment and the Senatskaya Square (enabling it soonest completion).

Another milestone, associated with the conservation of decommissioned brick sewer collector (laid in the XVIII century under Konnogvardeysky Boulevard and Alexandrovsky Garden) is also planned.

Unfortunately, the collector construction is impossible without traffic restrictions. Vodokanal of St.Petersburg apologizes for any arising inconveniences and asks citizens of St.Petersburg to understand: the remaining direct wastewater discharges in the city center do not decorate St.Petersburg and should therefore be eliminated.
