OREANDA-NEWS. Active participants of the Youth Environmental Centre projects gathered on 56 Shpalernaya street to discuss the interim results of the Gulf of Finland Year 2014 and take part in an intellectual game.

About fifty high school students from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region attended the meeting. They are participants of the projects "Youth Awareness Raising under the International Advanced Water Technologies Centre" and "Water Olympiad", as well as the children involved in the preparation of the Youth Declaration for the Gulf of Finland Year 2014.

The children and YIC specialists discussed the results of joint work in 2014 and again formulated the main environmental challenges, solutions to which were developed as part of different YIC projects. These are the issues related to shipping and fishing, use of water in big cities and possibilities to reduce its consumption, discharging of nitrogen and phosphate from washing powders into water bodies, eutrophication (blue and green algae growth).

In addition, the children were able to test their knowledge about the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea by taking part in the intellectual game.

At the end of the meeting all students were awarded diplomas for the active participation in environmental projects.
