Smolensk NPP Praised by International Experts
OREANDA-NEWS. "We were impressed with the work of the Smolensk NPP in safety culture," - said independent international consultants from Finland Jussi Helske and Antti Piirto at the end of the seminar, held at the nuclear power plant from 8 to 12 December.
Experts analyzed the state of the safety culture at the Smolensk NPP units, visited and studied the working documentation and conducted interviews with staff of management services, maintenance and repair services, electrical and chemical plants, automation plant and thermal measurements.
"It was very important for us to look at our work on safety culture through the eyes of experienced experts and ascertain the effectiveness of implemented at the Smolensk NPP activities on its increase, - said the Deputy chief engineer Oleg Saraev. - We received confirmation from the Finnish colleagues,, that we are moving in the right direction, and also new ideas, implementation of which will bring us to the next stage of safety culture development in our company".
Implementation of the project "safety culture" at the Smolensk NPP started in 2007. Safety Culture is a qualification and psychological readiness of the staff, which makes the security of the nuclear fuel cycle a priority and domestic demand, leading to the realization of personal responsibility and self-control in the performance of all work related to safety.
The Smolensk nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The SNPP annually issues on the average about 20 billion kilowatts hours of the electric power into country power supply system, that constitutes about 13% of the energy, developed in "Rosenergoatom Concern", and more than 80% of the Smolensk region energy, developed by the power entities.
