OREANDA-NEWS. December 18, 2014. This was discussed at a meeting between Deputy Minister of Economy of Moldova Octavian Calmic and Ambassador of Egypt to Moldova resident in Bucharest Mohamed Alaaeldin Aly Shawky Elhadidi.

At the meeting, Octavian Calmic told the Ambassador of Egypt about Moldova’s investment opportunities, tax and legal preferences investors are offered at Moldova’s free economic zones and advantages of the domestic industrial parks.

The key topics of the discussion included facilitation of the export of Moldova’s agrifoods to Egypt, the need for a closer cooperation between public institutions in charge of the export development, investment attraction and experience exchange, policies and strategies to support the SME sector. The officials agreed to start the talks on the signing of the following agreements: the Moldova-Egypt agreement on protection and mutual promotion of investment; the agreement on double taxation and tax evasion; the memorandum between Moldova’s Economy Ministry and Egypt’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and SME on understanding and cooperation in the SME sector.

The officials emphasized the necessity to organize reciprocal visits of businessmen of Moldova and Egypt, Egypt’s participation in the international specialized exhibition MOLDMEDIZIN MOLDDENT in Chisinau and a Moldova-Egypt business forum.

 According to the Ministry of Economy of Moldova, in January-September 2014, the bilateral trade between the two states amounted to USD10.6 million, growing twice as much against the same period of 2013. Moldova exported to Egypt maize, wheat and dried fruit. So, in 2014 Moldova’s exports to Egypt grew 22% to USD 2.4 million.
