OREANDA-NEWS. Today at 12:17 pm Moscow time the Proton-M carrier rocket placed into orbit the Yamal-401 satellite built on the request of Gazprom Space Systems.

Satellite operations are controlled by the Mission Control Center of Gazprom Space Systems located in Shchelkovo town.

Yamal-401 integrated naturally to the Yamal satellite communication system, which includes the orbital fleet of the Yamal-202, Yamal-300K and Yamal-402 satellites. Particularly, Yamal supports over 400 satellite earth stations of Gazprom. About 40 subsidiaries of the Company command the services of this communication system.

New Yamal-401 satellite has boosted the capacity of the Yamal orbital fleet in Russia by nearly 50 per cent. It is equipped with powerful transmitters that make it possible to create new high-speed communication and telemechanics control channels. These channels are primarily intended for the to-be industrial facilities of Gazprom, for example, the Power of Siberia gas transmission system.

The availability of new high-speed satellite communication and television channels creates conditions for implementing state telecommunication programs in a more efficient way – for instance, the Federal Target Program for Television and Radio Broadcasting Development.
