OREANDA-NEWS. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said that the Government had formulated National Skill Development Policy in 2009. The policy was to be reviewed every five years. The Government is reviewing the National Skill Development Policy. The National Skill Development Policy will provide a robust framework of skill development and focus on outcome based approach in terms of providing meaningful employment in the form of both wage and self employment.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Rudy said, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) is already engaged in skill development activities. NYKS in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) provided Skill Development and Vocational Training to Youth in various fields like Retail Sales, Electrician, Accounting, Hospitality, Information Technology Enable Services (ITes), Business Process outsourcing (BPO) etc. Under the project, 1269 youth from North Eastern States and J&K were trained.

The Minister said, the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) has already initiated the process of registering candidates who are interested in undertaking skill development trainings. This candidate registration component of the LMIS would be linked to AADHAR of UIDAI. The portal was launched on 1st October 2014 and is being upgraded. Till date, 1238 candidates have registered in the portal expressing their interests in undertaking skill training.

The Government of India is implementing about 73 skill development schemes, which vary across sectors through 22 GOI Ministries/Department. Various public awareness activities and campaigns are undertaken and incentives under these scheme to create awareness about these schemes, Shri Rudy added.
