OREANDA-NEWS. Stroytransgaz (STG) won a tender and signed a contract with JSC Moscow United Electric Grid Company (MOESK) for performance of design and survey for construction of 110/20 kV Medvedevskaya Substation.

This substation is necessary to satisfy growing needs of Skolkovo Innovation Center in power supply. The transformer capacity of the substation will be 2x80 MBA with an opportunity to increase up to 2x100MBA.

The STG's task is to design an innovative substation with the use of the latest developments in modern power industry, particularly, digital and energy saving technologies.

STG will design a digital substation equipped with the newest digital relay protection devices and automation for rapid detection of damaged elements and their separation from the electrical power system, digital instrumentation and switches. Registration of accidents, accounting and control over the quality of electricity will be ensured with the use of digital equipment. All devices at the substation will exchange information among themselves and the central server of the power facility through digital communication channels.

Digital data exchange at the substation will be ensured with the use of IEC-61850 protocol (unified standard). The use of this protocol is the latest practice in Russia that provides for a range of advantages. The format of data received through the protocol from various equipment (regardless of the producer, model type and year of production) will be absolutely identical. The protocol will significantly facilitate integration of new equipment in the existing complex electrical equipment of the digital substation. The cost efficiency of materials is obvious as instead of ten copper wires only one is to be used with IEC-61850.

Thanks to the use of digital technologies, reliability of the substation's operations increases substantially, while initial expenses for materials (control cable) and its assembly are decreased, and cost of operation of the facility decreases.

STG plans to use energy saving technologies. Heat emitted by substation's transformers will be used for heating the digital substation.

The electricity for lighting of the substation will be obtained with the use of a photo-voltaic technology that allows translating solar energy received on the earth surface into electricity.

Completion of design and survey is planned for December 2015.
