OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power utility, has always endeavored to preserve natural resources and spread the message of resource conservation. In line with this philosophy, the Company installed a rain water harvesting plant (RWH) at the Salsette division. The plant was inaugurated by Mr. Ashok D. Patil, local Member of the Legislative Assembly, in the presence of Mr. V K Chourey, Head-Transmission, Mumbai Operation, Tata Power, and other senior officials and contractors of the Salsette Division.

By installing the RWH plant, Tata Power aims to increase the ground water level and enable adequate water supply during the dry season. The Salsette division will judiciously utilise the harvested rain water for plant work and gardening, thereby supporting the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. The local government bodies appreciated Tata Power's initiative as it will help in addressing the acute water issue during the dry seasons.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. V K Chourey, Head-Transmission, Mumbai Operation, Tata Power, said, "Water is one of the most precious components of life and during the dry seasons the adjoining areas are acutely affected by the shortage of the natural resource, causing distress in the lives of the communities. We at Tata Power always believe in preserving natural resources and ensuring better quality of life for our community. It's heartening to note that the rain harvesting plant will go a long way in resolving the water scarcity in the region to a great extent and we look forward to implementing many more such projects wherever possible."

The rain water harvesting plant will recharge the existing bore well by diverting the rain water to the water cylinders which are surrounded with rubble. The process helps in increasing the ground water level and enables the bore well to supply water even during the dry season.
