Kazakhstan Plans to Build 2 New Nuclear Power Plants
OREANDA-NEWS. December 09, 2014. Vice Minister of Energy Bakhytzhan Dzhaksaliyev has informed in the Kazakh-French business forum in Astana, where two new nuclear power plants will be located in Kazakhstan.
"We plan to build two new nuclear power plants. 2 sites of possible location of nuclear power plants are selected. This year we have carried out a great work with a number of internationally recognized companies in the world, who have extensive experience in the production of nuclear power plants for the use of their technologies in the construction of new stations in Kazakhstan. Government working group is created, which reviewed many sites and stopped at the two of them," B. Dzhaksaliyev said.
He said that 2 sites of suggested location of NPP are selected at this point. "The site of suggested location will be East of Kazakhstan - previously operated Semipalatinsk atomic proving ground, near the city Kurchatov. The second site - near Lake Balkhash," he added.
B. Dzhaksaliyev said that the final decision on the location of the plant will be taken over the next 3 years. "Now the work is in progress. We will develop a final decision on the construction of the two facilities together with international experts in the next 2-3 years, and work will be continued", Kazakh Vice Minister of Energy concluded.
