OREANDA-NEWS. A new Walmart is opening Wednesday, December 3, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store is conveniently located at 19191 N. Kelsey St. and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The store will provide Monroe residents with low prices on a broad assortment of groceries and merchandise, along with a fuel station and full service pharmacy. Walmart is making holiday shopping more convenient than ever as local residents can shop for more than a million additional items online on Walmart.com and pick them up at the new Washington Walmart store for free, often as quickly as the same day.

"Monroe and the Sky Valley community are delighted to embrace diversity in our shopping experience," said Una Wirkebau-Hartt, executive director of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. "We welcome the opening of Walmart and are thrilled that 200 more locals have jobs which will increase economic vitality in our area. The store has already begun helping our nonprofits with a donation of both time and money for the Monroe Arts Council and the much needed upgrades of Wagner Auditorium. The Chamber looks forward to their continuing partnerships."

The new store employs approximately 200 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Don Albaugh began his Walmart career in 1995 as an hourly garden center associate.

"We are excited to open our doors just in time for the holidays," said Albaugh. "We hope to be able to offer a pleasant shopping experience to the Monroe community, both for their seasonal and everyday needs."
