MIA Adds New Brazil, Germany Service on Same Day
OREANDA-NEWS. Miami International Airport added two new international flights to its growing global route network on Tuesday, December 2 with the launch of nonstop service to a pair of overseas cities. MIA hub carrier American Airlines kicked off its first-ever direct daily service to Campinas, Brazil, a city of more than one million located in the Amazon nation's Sao Paulo state, while longtime airline partner Lufthansa launched seasonal service to Munich, Germany's third-largest city. Munich represents MIA's sixth new international destination for 2014. MIA has offered one-stop service to Campinas on Brazilian low-cost carrier GOL since July.
American Airlines' daily flights to Campinas will be operated using upgraded Boeing 767-300 aircraft with fully lie-flat seats in Business Class. MIA currently offers service to 11 destinations in Brazil, more than any other U.S. airport.
Lufthansa's new seasonal service to Munich will be operated with Airbus A330 aircraft in a three-class configuration. The flight will operate five days per week - Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday - through April 30, 2015.
Brazil is MIA's top international market with nearly two million passengers served in 2013, while Germany is MIA's second-busiest European market at 580,000 passengers served last year.
"We join airline partners American Airlines and Lufthansa in welcoming these exciting new travel options to our growing network - bem-vindo and willkommen," said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. "Our ongoing commitment is to connect our community and our customers to more of the world than ever before, and that trend continues with new direct service to Campinas and Munich."
