Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, is committed towards resource conservation, environment protection and sustainable development of the communities living around its areas of operation. In line with commitment, Tata Power recently announced the installation of a sewage treatment plant at its Jojobera plant in Jamshedpur. The ground breaking ceremony for this plant was inaugurated by Mr. V. V. Namjoshi Chief- Jojobera Station, Tata Power, Jamshedpur, in the presence of officials and employees. The new plant will be functional from March 2015.

With a total capacity of 50 kiloliters per day, the plant will result in huge savings of raw water due to the recycling and reuse of waste water. Tata Power has been implementing the 3R principle - 'Reuse, Reduce and Recycle' for conservation of the environment across its various facilities. Post treatment, the sewage water will be used for maintaining greenery within the plant premises whereas the sludge slurry will be reprocessed for gardening and secured land filling after drying.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. V.V. Namjoshi, Chief- Jojobera Station, Tata Power stated, "Tata Power is committed to the environment conservation and has been continuously undertaking several initiatives in a step towards a greener, cleaner world. This project has been implemented to reiterate the need for reducing water consumption, which is in line with the company's policy of environment conservation. As a step towards sustainability, we are certain that this initiative will help in reduction of water wastage as well as environment conservation."

The sewage treatment plant is based on proven MBBR (moving bed biological reactor) technology. Major equipment of the plant comprises of equalization tank, biological reactors, clarifier, flocucculator, tube settler, collection and treated water system. The guaranteed treated water quality conforms to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) norms.
