OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Steel is committed towards providing health care services in its area of operations. In keeping with this, Tata Steel today inaugurated the 18th Lifeline Express Project, a first of its kind hospital on wheels, at Jagdalpur, Bastar in Chhattisgarh. The project was inaugurated by Dr. Raman Singh, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh and Mr. T V Narendran, MD, India and SEA, Tata Steel. The medical mission has been organised by Tata Steel in collaboration with the Indian Railways, Impact India Foundation and Bastar district Administration to provide free treatment to villagers at Bastar District, Chhattisgarh. Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh lauded the initiative and congratulated Tata Steel for its continuos commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility. The villagers will be able to avail free treatment till December 23, 2014.

Since its inception, Tata Steel has pursued the cause of community welfare based on its vision that in a free enterprise, the community is not just another stakeholder in business but is, in fact, the very purpose of its existence. It is this vision of Tata Steel that manifests itself to focusing on providing health care services and improving the quality of lives of the people. Lifeline Express, one of the major innovations in the history of Indian medical history, is equipped with a modern operation theatre, which offers diagnostic, medical and surgical treatment for prevention and curative interventions. Launched on July 16, 1991, this project, owned by Impact India Foundation, was founded in partnership with the Indian Railways and Health Ministry. The project has been financed by Impact UK, international benevolent sources, Indian business houses and some renowned people. Tata Steel has been financing the initiative since 1991.
