OREANDA-NEWS. December 01, 2014. At the moment there is change in the configuration of traditional energy flows in the world. This has been stated by Minister of Energy Vladimir Shkolnik, speaking at the Energy Charter Conference in Astana.

"Most experts predict leading role of oil and gas in the global energy balance for at least another few decades. In the present time there is change in the configuration of traditional energy flows, the intensification of fossil fuel consumption in developing countries, especially in India and China," said Vladimir Shkolnik.

According to him, today there is also a great emphasis on energy efficiency and renewable sources in OECD countries.

"It makes us to take a fresh look at the geography of energy supply perspective," V. Shkolnik said.

Exploitation rate after 2020 in Kazakhstan will exceed 100 million tons.

"According to our forecasts after 2020 exploitation rate in Kazakhstan will exceed 100 million tons per year, or 2 million barrels per day," Minister of Energy informed.

He said that over the past 20 years, exploitation rate in Kazakhstan has increased by more than 3 times and makes 1.6 million barrels per day. Gas production has increased by more than 5 times. For today Kazakhstan produces more than 40 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

"Oil and gas and energy industry is one of the basic structural elements of our economy. During the independence period we have entered top 15 largest holders of proven oil reserves and top 20 of gas reserves," Vladimir Shkolnik said.

Total amount of recoverable basic fuel resources - oil, gas, coal and uranium - is about 35 billion tons of oil equivalent in Kazakhstan.

"Kazakhstan, which has significant energy resources and long successful experience in relations in the energy sector, is at the intersection of major energy flows. Our country has unique reserves of coal, uranium, oil and natural gas," Vladimir Shkolnik said.

In addition, the minister said, our country has the potential of hydropower and use of other renewable energy sources.

"Total amount of recoverable basic fuel resources, that is oil, gas, coal and uranium is about 35 billion tons of oil equivalent in Kazakhstan. Current annual production of primary energy resources reaches 400 million tons. At the same time, domestic consumption is about 60 million tons," Vladimir Shkolnik said.

He added that our country is energy excessive and a serious exporter of energy in the various countries of the world.
