OREANDA-NEWS. The Karlova Boat Harbour, the construction works of which were completed by Nordecon ahead of schedule, will be festively inaugurated on Friday.

„In spite of our extensive experience in building port facilities, it is the first river harbour built by Nordecon. In planning work we had to take into consideration not only the nature, but also changes in the water levels in the Emajõgi and fish spawning. It's great to see that we completed the task well and that the harbour will be opened two months ahead of contractual deadline," said Erkki Suurorg, Member of the Management Board of Nordecon AS.

„Thanks to its location and infrastructure, the newly-completed Karlova Boat Harbour has an excellent chance to become the centre of river traffic not only in Tartu, but all the way to Lake Peipus. One section of the Emajõgi is back in condition and Tartu's residents are again able to walk along the shore path.„

Erkki Suurorg said that the harbour is a multifunctional facility that will notably increase the value of the surrounding area.

Among others, the harbour features a 40-metre-long permanent jetty, in addition to a floating quay, accommodating for 44 small craft. In addition, there is now a 1,110 sqm parking lot for the caravans. For operational control of the harbour, a building with 180 sqm of floor space was erected, in addition to 3,400 sqm of parking lots and 4,500 sqm of green areas. In addition to installing street lighting, also 650 metres of water and sewage pipes were laid. The total cost of harbour works was EUR 1.34 million excluding value-added tax.

The harbour and its infrastructure located at Rebase 18 belongs to the Tartu City Government and was developed in the framework of the project "Economically and Environmentally Sustainable Lake Peipus Region." On the proposal of the Tartu City Council, the new harbour was named Karlova Boat Harbour.
