OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2014. Finnair has announced that it will start flying to O'Hare International Airport next summer, from June 13 through October 17, 2015.

Flights will be operated three times a week with Airbus A330 aircraft. Departures from Helsinki, Finland and Chicago will be on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 5:25 p.m., with arrival in Chicago at 6:40 p.m. CST. Return flights to Helsinki depart at 10 p.m. and arrive the following day at 2:50 p.m.

"We are very pleased to welcome a new airline, Finnair, to Chicago's global gateway, O'Hare International Airport," said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "This new service to Helsinki further solidifies Chicago's status as the best connected city in the world and directly supports our goal to increase tourism to our world-class city. These flights provide O'Hare business and leisure travelers with more choices, and will generate millions of dollars in economic activity for our region."

Finnair's Chicago service is included in the joint business on transatlantic traffic with fellow oneworld alliance partners British Airways, Iberia, American Airlines and American's merger partner US Airways. Chicago is a hub for American, which allows Finnair's customers quick codeshare connections to destinations throughout the United States, including San Francisco and Los Angeles. The joint business between Finnair and the cooperating airlines gives customers the possibility to mix and match flights on different carriers for the best pricing and scheduling.

"This is a very exciting announcement for Chicago and O'Hare International Airport," said Rosemarie S. Andolino, Commissioner, Chicago Department of Aviation. "Finnair's service to Helsinki will connect two great cities and will offer O'Hare travelers a new connecting point to destinations throughout Europe. Visitors from Helsinki will have a direct link to Chicago as well as a new connecting point to destinations across the U.S."

O'Hare is the world's busiest airport, handling approximately 2,400 daily flight operations and nearly 67 million passengers in 2013.
