Belarus Redistributes Supplementary Tariff Quotas on Meat Import
OREANDA-NEWS. The Ministry of Agriculture of Belarus will redistribute some of the 2014 meat import quotas, which were not used up till November 10.
All in all, they plan to redistribute tariff quotas on 20,000 tonnes on imported pork, 10,000 tonnes of poultry and 10,000 tonnes of frozen chicken meat.
Belarus turned to the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) a short while ago with a request to increase pork and poultry import quotas amid several outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF), which undermined pork production in Belarus. Another reason why Belarus wants to have its meat import quotas increased is the pressure to increase exports of meat and poultry product to the Russian market. Belarus is free to import meat and poultry from third countries and export processes meat products to Russia. The meat import scheme has been approved by the Russian movement.
On October 2014 the EEC increased Belarus' 2014 pork import quota from 20,000 tonnes to 40,000 tonnes; poultry meat - from 10,900 tonnes to 20,900 tonnes, frozen chicken meat - from 10,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes.
