Estonia's Export Up 7%
OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2014. The country's foreign trade turnover in September was the biggest this year so far, according to Statistics Estonia. The exports of goods increased by 7 percent and imports by 9 percent at current prices compared to September of last year.
The increase in exports and imports was mostly influenced by the trade of electrical equipment and raw materials and products of chemical industry. Over the nine months of 2014, exports and imports declined by 3 percent compared to the same period of 2013.
In September, exports from Estonia amounted to 1.1 billion euros and imports to Estonia to 1.2 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 140 million euros, and it increased by 26.8 million euros compared to September 2013.
The most successful Estonia’s export segment was held by electrical equipment (24 percent of Estonia’s total exports), followed by mineral products (9 percent), wood products (9 percent) and agricultural products and food preparations (9 percent).
The top destination country of Estonia’s exports in September was Sweden (21 percent of Estonia’s total exports), followed by Finland (15 percent) and Russia (12 percent). The biggest increase occurred in exports to Sweden, the United States, and Germany.
The main countries exporting goods to Estonia in September were Finland (16 percent of Estonia’s total imports), Sweden (13 percent) and Germany (11 percent). The main commodities imported were mineral products and electrical equipment from Finland, electrical equipment and transport equipment from Sweden, and mechanical appliances and transport equipment from Germany.
