OREANDA-NEWS. November 11, 2014. The consumer price index in Estonia remained flat in October, unchanged from the previous month. It dropped 0.2 percent compared to the CPI in October of 2013, Statistics Estonia reported today.

The report said that goods were 0.1 percent less expensive and services were 0.5 percent cheaper compared to the same period last year.

This was driven mostly by the rates of electricity, heat energy and fuels, Statistics Estonia said. Electricity rates decreased 7.6 percent over the period, and heat energy was down by 2.6 percent. Motor fuel rates declined by 2.8 percent.

Alcoholic beverages were 3.3 percent more expensive over the period, and tobacco shot up 7.2 percent, compared with the same time last year. Out of food products, dried fruit and nuts have increased the most (17 percent), while the price of sugar, apples and potatoes have seen the greatest drop (41, 25 and 19 percent, respectively).

Compared to September, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by 9.2% cheaper fresh fruit and 20.8% more expensive plane tickets in October. Of food products, the prices of hazelnuts increased the most (14%) and the prices of lemons, carrots and onions decreased the most (33%, 22% and 18%, respectively).
