OREANDA-NEWS. November 11, 2014. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) and its regional Offices analyzed the markets of solid municipal waste transportation and disposal.

The main survey objectives are:

- Estimating the state of competitive environment on the markets of solid municipal waste transportation and disposal

- Determining economic entities with over 35% on the market in question

- Revealing market entry / exit barriers and problems affecting development of competition on the markets in question.

The survey defined the following market boundaries: services for transporting solid municipal waste; services for solid municipal waste disposal. The geographic boundaries are administrative boundaries of the towns with population over 100,000, in some cases with neighbouring districts, determined on the basis of a survey of service sellers and buyers location.

In the course of the analysis, FAS established that over half of the economic entities operating on the markets of services for solid municipal waste disposal also provide services for their transportation.

At the same time, around one fifth of the economic entities simultaneously operating on the markets of transportation and disposal of solid municipal waste, control over 35% market share.

As a result of the survey, the antimonopoly authority concluded that the competitive environment on the market of services for solid municipal waste disposal is underdeveloped; on the market of services for transporting solid municipal waste the competitive environment is also poorly developed, in some constituent territories of the Russian Federation the market is moderately concentrated, and in some cases – low concentrated.

The survey of the markets of services for solid municipal waste transportation and disposal was based on 2012 data. According to FAS, recently the situation on the market of services for transporting solid municipal waste has improved, it has become more competitive.
