OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2014. The agricultural production increased by 38 per cent in 2013 against 2012, and the share of agriculture and food industry in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was about 17 per cent, by one per cent more than in 2012.

The data today was made public by Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vasile Bumacov, who presented a report on the ministry's work for 2011-2014.

The unveiled data shows that the agricultural sector is the only one in the national economy to register a positive trade balance,  with agricultural products amounting to over one billion lei exported in 2013.

"The agro-industrial sector is strategic and the most competitive one of the national economy," said Bumacov.

As for the Russian embargo on Moldovan agricultural products, Bumacov noted that "EU assistance to Moldova exceeds ten-fold what farmers lost by not being able to export to Russia."
Referring to a list of things that he failed to meet, the minister said that he wanted to reform the science sector and start building a modern agro-food market.

The overall contracted  financial resources in agriculture in 2011-2014 amount to about 8.5 billion dollars.
