OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2014. The number of new vehicles sold in a month in Estonia passed the 2,000 mark for the first time since the summer of 2008.

Car sales remained at 2013 levels until June, after which, with the exception of August, 2014 sales have outstripped last year's sales by around 200 to 300 each month, AMTEL, the Union of Estonian Car Sales and Services Enterprise, announced.

The total number of new cars sold is up by 5.7 percent, compared to the same period in 2013. This year's figure of 17,923 is already higher than for the whole of 2012, and closing in fast on 2013 figure of 19,500. The record year for new car sales in Estonia was in 2007, when 30,902 new vehicles were purchased. The figure dropped to around 8,000 in 2009.

Toyota (326 vehicle sales in October) remained the most popular car maker in Estonia , followed by Volkswagen (184) and Skoda (175). 41 electric vehicles were also sold in October.
