OREANDA-NEWS.  November 05, 2014. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) started unscheduled inspections of some associations and economic entities operating on the market of sales of meat and meat products to verify compliance with the antimonopoly law.

The inspections are taking place under the frame of the order of the Government of the Russian Federation to control the situation on the food products markets due to restricting imports of some products.

Recently, prices for meat, especially pork, demonstrated an extraordinary rapid growth, and there are grounds to think that such growth is not caused by objective economic reasons.

“Some industry experts predict that in a few weeks pork and poultry prices will go down, which is undoubtedly a positive estimate we would like to trust. We plan, however, to carefully analyze the market situation and understand whether the increase of meat prices is a consequence of anticompetitive agreements”, stated Deputy Head of FAS, Alexander Kinev.

“Today unscheduled inspections of economic entities is the most efficient instrument of control over compliance with the antimonopoly law, and we will apply it as provided by the Federal Law “On Protection of Competition”, pointed out the Head of FAS Anti-Cartel Department, Andrey Tenischev.
