Laboratory Studies Confirm High Quality of Oil of Pobeda Field
OREANDA-NEWS. October 31, 2014. Research workers of the corporate TomskNIPIneft institute finalized the studies on the physical and chemical properties and composition of oil produced from the Universitetskaya-1 well drilled in the Kara Sea, which discovered a new arctic field named Pobeda. The results of the studies were presented to Rosneft Head Igor Sechin at a meeting in TomskNIPIneft.
The results of a set of studies of reservoir fluid samples, drilling cuttings and core samples performed by TomskNIPIneft confirmed predictive appraisal of the oil quality. This ultralight oil surpasses the benchmark Brent oil as well as Siberian Light oil and WTI on the key indicators (density and sulphur content). It is comparable to the oil from White Tiger oilfield of the Vietnamese Shelf. The density of the oil from the Universitetskaya-1 is 808-814 kg/m3, compared to 834 kg/m3 for Brent. Sulphur content by weight in the oil of Pobeda is just 0.02%, compared to 0.2-1% in Brent and 1.2-1.3% in Urals. Also, Pobeda’s oil has a high light cut yield of 60-70% and a low tar content of 1.5%.
Following the studies of core TomskNIPIneft research workers provided on-going estimate of oil and gas resources following the data from the Universitetskaya-1, which showed that the resources of even of the first hydrocarbon trap discovered amount 391.9 bn cubic metres of gas and 128.7 mln tons of oil by C1+C2 category.
The studies were carried out using the most up-to-date equipment including gas chromatography, isotope and molecular mass spectrometry.
During his visit to TomskNIPIneft Igor Sechin visited the laboratory of geochemistry and reservoir oils, the core store and the core collection and processing laboratory.
TomskNIPIneft acts as the general design centre of facilities in Rosneft’s key upstream subsidiaries - Vankorneft, Vostsibneftegaz, RN-Purneftegaz, ROSPAN-INTERNATIONAL, Tyumenneftegaz, RN-Yuganskneftegaz and Tomskneft. In 2010 and 2012 the institute took first place in Rosneft’s ranking of corporate research institutes.
