WSGRI Experts Departure for Science Investigation in Antarctica
OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2014. An Expedition Ceremony was convened in the office building of Wuhan Surveying-Geotechnical Research Institute Co. of MCC Group (WSGRI).
Two experts, Xu Yong and Wang Jiaqing, were recruited for the 31st science investigation of China in Antarctica for geological resources and engineering.
At the ceremony, the two experts made a briefing on the background, tasks, content, preparation work for geological resources and engineering technologies, as well as the procurement of materials and equipment for this investigation. Both Xu Yong and Wang Jiaqing are designated with various missions. After arrive in Antarctica, they will go with the relevant delegation members and conduct a one-month investigation and study on geological conditions, resources and engineering geological survey respectively in Antarctic Zhongshan Station, Victoria and the other regions, and thus provide technical support to the Antarctic Scientific Investigation Station to be established in Victoria.
Upon approval by the relevant authorities under the State Council, the 31st Antarctic Scientific Expedition Team of China was formally established. Two experts of WSGRI and the other 273 team members will departure from Port of Shanghai through Snow Dragon, China's polar research vessel, on October 30, 2014, with a total duration of about 83 days.
Antarctic Scientific Investigation Station in Victoria is a new one to be established by China, which is located in the island in Victoria Land, covering an area of 45 square kilometers. In this regard, the 29th and the 30th Antarctic Scientific Expedition Team of China have already carried out site selection and initial investigation for this purpose.
