Lithuania's LNG Terminal Important For Estonia, Says Sulling
OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2014. The floating LNG terminal which arrived in Lithuania on Monday will also increase Estonia's energy independence, says Foreign Trade and Entrepreneurship Minister Anne Sulling.
She said a regional gas market is in the interest of all the Baltic states, and Lithuania has taken a great step towards that goal. “The first great alternative gas supply for Baltic nations is now here, in the form of the floating terminal. Participants in the Estonian gas market now have the opportunity to purchase gas at world-market terms.”
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said the terminal, which holds 170,000 cubic meters of liquefied gas, can cover 90 percent of the gas needs of the Baltic nations. “And no one will be able to dictate gas prices and political decisions.”
The terminal “Independence” is the first large volume LNG terminal in the Baltic region.
