OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2014. Neste Oil has joined the United Nations Global Compact. Companies that participate in the UN initiative commit themselves to respecting a set of 10 principles covering human rights, labor rights, the environment, and combating corruption in their operations and strategy.

Over 12,000 companies from more than 145 countries are currently part of the Global Compact, which is the world's largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative.

"Joining the Global Compact will further strengthen our commitment to developing sustainability of our operations, where, among other things, respecting human and labor rights play an important role. These issues are essential development areas in our sustainability work, and their importance is highlighted as we operate in international markets where working conditions may vary," says Simo Honkanen, Neste Oil's Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Public Affairs.

Neste Oil's commitment to respecting human rights is also stressed in the company's Sustainability Principles for Biofuels, its Sustainability Policy, and the Neste Oil Code of Conduct. In addition to expecting high standards of itself, Neste Oil also expects all its suppliers to respect human rights in their operations.
