OECD Learns about Talent Training for SMEs from POSCO
OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2014. POSCO participated in the International Conference for Local Job Creation co-hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and OECD, and gave a presentation on the results of the National Human Resources Development Consortium Project` under the title, `Shared Growth through Customized Talent Training for SMEs`.
The conference was held at the Nurimaru APEC House, Busan, in the presence of John Atherton, Chair of OECD LEED (Local Economic & Employment Development), Lee Ki-kwon, Minister of Employment and Labor, and over 130 domestic and foreign researchers. This event aimed to share the results of local job creation projects and find the direction of the local employment policy.
POSCO attended this conference as the best practice organization of the National Human Resources Development Consortium, and director Yoo Seon-hee gave a presentation on the project results and the best practice. The National Human Resources Development Consortium Project aims to train human resources of SMEs for free by utilizing the well-established training infrastructure of large companies, with the Ministry of Employment and Labor providing training costs. POSCO has been selected as the best consortium training institution and the chair of the Council for Shared Growth Human Resources Training for seven consecutive years. Recognized as a 21st century model contributing to shared growth and sustainable development, POSCO was introduced at the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) in 2012 and at APEC in 2013.
POSCO provides its suppliers and partners with a total of 130 training courses in four areas of technology, safety, IT and personality, and since 2005, over 350 thousand workers have been trained through the program. POSCO aims to provide a total training package to employees of its suppliers and partners, ranging from employment to retirement: training for prospective and new employees to leadership training for middle management, E-MBA for executives and life planning for prospective retirees. In addition to providing the existing training programs, it has also helped its suppliers and partners to build their own training systems by, for example, fostering hundreds of trainers at over 100 firms through customized `systematic field training`, `training organizing project` and `consulting for HRD`.
Meanwhile, POSCO will continue to strive to contribute to the employment vitalization policy of the Ministry of Employment and Labor; from this year it plans to train workers without a college degree into skilled experts through intensive training programs at its corporate college, which was founded through the financial support from the ministry. It also plans to foster practical workers, who will work in a real site for over a year under the `Work & Learn` program.
