OREANDA-NEWS. October 24, 2014. The seventh meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States’ (CIS) Consultative Council on Consumer Rights Protection took place in Chisinau, the Economics Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.

 The event, focused on the cooperation of CIS member states in the consumer rights protection area and ensuring quality of food products, was chaired by the co-head of the Consultative Council, Deputy Economics Minister Valeriu Triboi and the chief of the Consultative Council, Head of the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) Ana Popova. 

Valeriu Triboi welcomed the organisation of the meeting in Chisinau. He emphasised that the development of the consumer protection system in line with the international standards represented a priority for Moldova.

The members of the council made a retrospective of the most important events of the consumer protection sector, carried out in the CIS member countries on the period between the Council’s meetings. They also analysed the situation in terms of enforcing the decisions of the previous meeting, as well as the up-to-date issues dealing with the CIS states’ cooperation in ensuring the consumer rights’ protection.

 At the same time, the participants in the meeting exchanged opinions on the achievements and problems faced by the participating countries in the field of consumer rights protection and drew up an action plan for 2015-2016. Representatives of national consumer rights protection institutions from the CIS states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Moldova), guests from Georgia, as well as more non-governmental organisations of the sector took part in the meeting.

 The event was hosted by the Economics Ministry, that will take over the Council’s chairmanship for one year.
